There are some risks that just aren't worth taking. The combination of Lewis Capaldi and live TV is one of those risks.

Which explains why ITV muted his BRIT Awards speech last night as he took to the stage to give out the award for Album of the year. Luckily, this video shows what he actually said, with no bleeps:

Arriving on stage, Capaldi started shushing the audience as they welcomed him with applause. Classic.

The 24-year-old singer-songwriter then went on to say: "Right... hello motherf***ers. Listen guys, here man, I'm f***ing sweating, it's like a swamp down there I'm telling ya. Sweaty b*******.

"Hello BRIT Awards. That's where we are. Sorry I'm reading off a card here."

He then went on to slowly read: "How is everyone doing? It's great to be here tonight, it's just great to be out of the house to be honest.

"It's been a great year for albums, most of all because I haven't f***ing released one.

"It's a total honour to present the award for best album. Let's hope that this coming year is even bigger and better than ever for British music.

"And - obviously - let's also hope that Scotland win at the Euros."

He then held the cue card in the air in mock innocence, adding:" "I didn't f***ing write it, I'm just doing a job."

He went on to present the award to Dua Lipa for her album Future Nostalgia. Dua also won the BRIT for Best Female Solo Artist with Little Mix taking the award for Best British Group.

Other winners included: Harry Styles for Best British Single, Billie Eilish for International Female Solo Artist and The Weeknd for the male equivalent.

Earlier in the show, host Jack Whitehall had also been muted to comic effect during one monologue in which he thanked the key workers in the audience.

Capaldi recently postponed all his 2021 live shows to focus on recording a follow-up to his chart-topping debut album.

He released Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent in May 2019, spawning the number one single 'Someone You Loved' and spending 10 weeks in the album chart top spot.

In March he announced he will return with new music and a supporting tour in 2022.
