Alton Towers has revealed its brand new rollercoaster and it looks absolutely amazing.

The brand new ride, called The Wicker Man, opens in spring and features a six-storey-high (you guessed it) wicker man, which appears to burst into flames as people pass.

The giant wicker man has a human face on one side and ram's head on the other, but the scares start way before visitors are even strapped in, as while queuing they'll be immersed in a 'secret community' known as Beronen. Visitors will hear creepy rhythmic chanting aimed to draw them in and ramp up the fear factor.

According to a press release: "Guests will be chosen to take part in the cinematic 'pre-show' before braving the ride itself." Exciting.

Over the Alton Towers page, the rides description promises: "Join the chosen ones on the world's most immersive rollercoaster experience to date, unifying cutting edge special effects with classic wooden coaster technology for the first time!

"The chosen ones can climb on-board the Beornen's works train passing further into their secretive world, splintering around a labyrinth of twisted track. The burning embers light the path as the train hurtles towards the six-storey-high flaming effigy. Speeding towards the Wicker Man, he spectacularly ignites into flames as the train bursts through his chest three times."

The Wicker Man has been in development since 2016 and cost a whopping £16 million ($22.4m) to build - it's also the first wooden rollercoaster to have been built in 21 years. Bosses at Alton Tower have said the team in charge of operating the ride will undertake 'hundreds of hours of training' between now and the time the ride opens.

Francis Jackson, Operations Director at Alton Towers Resort, said: "Wicker Man is Alton Towers' most ambitious project to date and we're really excited to finally reveal our newest thrill attraction to the world.

"We've spent four years creating an experience that is truly spectacular by investing in the latest technologies which combine wood, fire and special effects to give riders the genuine feeling that they will be racing though flames.

"We can't wait for everyone to experience Wicker Man when the park opens this spring."
