Bradley Walsh Finally Apologises For Fanny Chmelar Incident

It's still funny

A lot of famous quiz masters have a gimmick of sorts.

On Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Chris Tarrant had that awfully annoying long pause when telling contestants whether they'd answered questions correctly or not. On The Weakest Link, Anne Robinson was basically an arsehole to people, in a bid to create a stern, old school headmistress-type character.

Fast forward to the present day and we have Bradley Walsh. A man with no gimmick; the only thing on his agenda being to have a laugh.

The Chase would be a good enough concept without Bradley. However, his presence - as he laughs at a plethora of childish things, slags off the chasers and basically doesn't give a fuck - takes it to a new level.

There have been many moments like the one in the video above, when the host gets the giggles at words like 'kakistocracy', though the most notable is the infamous 'Fanny Chmelar incident'.

Long ago, in 2011, chaser Anne Hegerty and a contestant called Bryn were faced with this question: 'In what sport does Fanny Chmelar compete for Germany?'

Both elected for show jumping, which was incorrect (the correct answer was skiing). However, who was wrong or right didn't really matter, because Walsh stole the show with his uncontrollable laughter.

He's now appeared on Lorraine and tried to apologise to Fanny herself.

Christine Bleakley filled in for Lorraine this morning, and brought up the hilarious moment six years ago.

"You do have some laughs on it, don't you? Going back to the Fanny question," Christine said, before Walsh replied, "I'd love to meet her, just to apologise."

It became apparent that ITV had tried to get in touch with the skier so the pair could speak, but unfortunately she just wasn't up for it.

Still, he finally apologised...

"She must have had enough of it by now. The poor thing. I do apologise. I have to apologise to Fanny, " he said. "I'm sorry, Fanny. She's a very good downhill skier by all accounts."

It's still funny.
