Piers Morgan Finds Out That He Has Zero English Heritage

There were a few regions he wasn't expecting to be included.

Television host Piers Morgan has pulled up plenty of people on Twitter who claim he's so staunchly English, reminding them that he is, in fact, Irish despite being born in Sussex.

But he and his Good Morning Britain colleague Susanna Reid thought they would roll the dice and see where their heritage really lies. Being born to Irish parents, Morgan knew that there was going to be a strong presence of that in his results.

However, he wasn't expecting what else was contained in his DNA assessment.

According to the MyHeritage results, Piers Morgan is 91 percent Irish, Scottish and Welsh, 6.5 percent eastern European, 1.6 percent west Asian and 0.8 percent Middle Eastern. He was initially surprised that he had any hints of Scottish blood in him, but then it dawned on him that he has zero percent English heritage.

MyHeritage spokesperson Aaron Godfrey told the hosts: "Most people are a mix. There's no one who has just one thing, in fact, we looked at our database and found it's less than 0.3 percent. So, everybody is made up of these journeys their ancestors took."

But when Piers asked about his huge lack of Englishness, Mr Godfrey said: "That's the thing about DNA...DNA isn't something you catch just by being born in a particular country, it's something that your ancestors have been on that journey."

The GMB host seemed slightly chuffed that he had more of an ancestral connection with the Arab world than with England.

"I don't seem to have any English blood at all," he said. "Not a drop. People always said, 'You were born in England, therefore you're English'. Actually, here is conclusive evidence that I don't have a shred of English in me. I'm predominantly Irish, with a dash of Scottish and Welsh.

"I'm more Arabic than I am English. Fascinating."

The MyHeritage results found Pier's ancestors date back to at least the 1740s in Ireland. But the TV journalist claims that some ancestral digging of his own revealed his family is linked to actress Elizabeth Taylor and the Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara.

Then it was Susanna's turn, and she found out that she's 35 percent Scottish, Irish and Welsh, 18 percent Iberian (Spanish and Portuguese), 17 percent English, 17 percent eastern European and 14 percent Scandinavian.

The TV host was similarly surprised about her Scandinavian and Iberian heritage, saying: "We've been keeping some secrets I fear."
