Gogglebox stars and celebrities were left in floods of tears after watching the story of a dad who died just hours after the birth of his son.

Jack Whitehall, YungBlud and Nick Grimshaw were among those who were visibly affected by the heartbreaking clip in last night's special Stand Up To Cancer edition of the hit show.

Throughout the emotionally charged episode, viewers were shown a series of upsetting clips, but one in particular struck a chord with guests.

That was the story of dad Brett, who had previously overcome a brain tumour before being hit with the news that doctors had found another, more aggressive one.

Brett's wife Nicole then appeared on the screen to share their story. She said: "We sat down with his neurologist and they went through the extremes of what the surgery could lead to."

The mum-of-three then went on to explain how specialists told the couple they could perform an operation to remove Brett's tumour but there was a chance that he might die.

Nicole continued: "We almost started to panic and they took as much of the tumour away as they could.

"When the tumour grew back it was more aggressive. It couldn't be operated on."

The couple then found out that they were expecting another child together, daughter Arya.

However, the story took a distressing turn. After Nicole went into labour in Luton, husband Brett had a seizure in Milton Keynes.

After the birth, Nicole picked up Arya and raced down the M1 to be with him by his hospital bed.

Looking back at that moment, she said: "When we arrived there, I took her over to him and laid her on him and described what she looked like. So we had a couple of hours.

"I said to him, 'It's OK, don't hurt yourself any more.'"

It was then revealed to viewers that Arya was born at 5.07am, while her dad lost his battle and passed away at 8.25am.

The distressing story had a devastating effect on viewers and guests alike.

Taking to Twitter, one person commented: "Cancer is one of the most disgusting, heartbreaking illnesses imaginable. Watching this #Gogglebox puts things into perspective."

Another added: "LOVED #Gogglebox last night but WOW did I break down at that young families story!

"As emotional & heartbreaking as it is to watch, when it finishes & it's over for you, it's not for them, it's their life & they're still living through the pain! 1 in 2 of us! NOT OKAY!"
