Romesh Ranganathan Calls Holly Willoughby A 'Sh*thead' On 'Play To The Whistle'

Romesh Ranganathan Calls Holly Willoughby A 'Sh*thead' On 'Play To The Whistle'

Sport quiz shows have a varied history. Some are alright, but will always remain in that area of mediocrity where you're never really in a rush to watch them.

A Question of Sport used to be class. In the late 90s, two teams headed up by former Scottish footballer Ally McCoist and snooker world champion John Parrot, who, by all intents and purposes just wanted to drink and have a laugh, made it great.

Since then not many sport-related panel shows have made their mark, with the most successful recently being A League of Their Own, which at this point is more of a comedy show.

Now though, ITV has Play to the Whistle. Put Holly Willoughby in charge of anything and you're pretty much onto a winner, given that she's seen as that 'best friend's mother' kind of thing. Basically, the channel have combined Willoughby and footy - any 16-year-old's dream.

One team is captained by Bradley Walsh, which does nothing but further its hilarity, while the other team is headed up by former Chelsea and Manchester City (don't forget Chelsea fans, he played for City) player, Frank Lampard.

The resident comedian is Romesh Ranganathan, who's there to say the odd funny thing and call out the likes of Lampard on their questionable academic ability. Though, on a recent episode, it wasn't the sportsman he was calling out, it was Holly.

On these type of shows you expect a bit of back and forth, and usually it's all in good nature.

When Romesh tried to take aim at host Holly, picking at faults in her questions, she replied with a jibe about his weight.

"Is it like, one of them gourmet doughnuts, or those ones where it's like 10 for a pound?," he inquired about a question, to which Holly replied: "I don't know the answer to that."

The comedian then quipped: "How are we supposed to answer this question?," before he got the answer: "It was the type you eat loads of."

Ooof, burn.

In order to save himself from embarrassment he turned to some type of schoolyard banter, saying that Holly acts "so nice on This Morning, but you're a real shithead on this show."

Shortly after Romesh stormed off, while Holly tweeted during the show.

Her loyal fans were completely against the comedian's use of profanity against her, presumably because they're used to daytime television.

Holly is no stranger to late night TV, having spent a fair amount of time as a team captain on Celebrity Juice.

Not long back, when she appeared on the show with This Morning co-host Philip Schofield, Keith Lemon joked that the pair should consummate their friendship after working together for 10 years.

I imagine that was pretty awkward as Phillip has been married since 1993 and Holly tied the knot in 2007.
