Hugh Jackman is one of the good guys. He's one of the most respected and successful actors of his generation, somehow finding the time for an impressive amount of charity work alongside an ever-busy filming schedule.

Plus he's got 'played Wolverine for 17 years' on his CV, which is pretty much as cool as it gets.

So you can imagine how excited fans must have been when the 49-year-old Australian actor snuck into a singalong screening of The Greatest Showman and joined right in.

Hugh has been racking up acclaim and awards nominations for his starring role in the film, which is based on P.T. Barnum's rise to fame. The soundtrack has proven a massive success too, with fans flocking to cinemas for special singalong screenings.

And it looks like starring in the movie wasn't enough for the actor - in an admirable display of nerdy enthusiasm, he wanted to join in with the singalong fun, and snuck into the back of one theatre before being spotted and documented.

He's now shared footage from the event, tweeting:

Fans have been loving it too. "I was there literally shaking when I saw you behind me," wrote one person on Twitter, evidently delighted to have found herself sat in front of the movie star.

Others weren't quite so lucky as that, but were quick to respond to Hugh's tweet. "That's hysterical! We've been singing along since we first saw it. Though nowhere near as well as you!" added another fan.

Meanwhile, a third Twitter user was more direct in his praise, simply posting: "Mate, you are The Greatest Showman Alive ! We don't deserve such a wonderful human being like you!!"

The Greatest Showman was released in cinemas in December and swiftly became a success with audiences, grossing over $424.4 million (£303m) as of April 2018.

Meanwhile, it seems as though Hugh has been considering a return to his most iconic role - according to one of his fellow Marvel movie stars, he's been given serious thought to playing Wolverine once more.

Sebastian Stan - who has played the Winter Soldier in three Captain America films - told the crowd at Comic Con: "Recently I happened to be sitting next to Hugh Jackman.

"I didn't know what other awkward thing I could talk about but to be like, 'Am I going to see you soon?'

"I asked him because I kept thinking he said whether or not that was, Logan, was supposed to be the last Wolverine thing or whatever, and he said to me... well I think he publicly said out there, which was like he's been thinking about it and it's been on his mind."

Hugh was pretty insistent that 2017's Logan would be his final run-out as the adamantium-clawed mutant, after nine appearances in the X-Men franchise, but having redefined one of the most beloved superheroes over the past two decades, you can see why he'd be up for another go.

Looks like time will tell on this one.
