I wish I could be a fly on the wall for some of the board meetings where advertising firms pitch their ideas. I'd love to know where some of the genius comes from.

Half the time it's pretty basic stuff, but every now and they create something that really sticks in your head - whether it's the funny, the song, or the weird.

Skittles has been responsible for some pretty interesting ads and social media campaigns over the years - but this one definitely falls into the latter category of why it stays with you.

What appears as a cute guessing game of 'what flavour am I eating?' between mother and son, quickly turns into a massive 'what the actual fuck?'

As the camera pans out, instead of the guy guessing what flavour his mum has eaten, you realise that they're connected through a fucking umbilical cord.

It won't be the first advert that's made us sit up and do a double take. In fact, Reese's Pieces also decided an umbilical cord would be a cool way to sell their product...

It's just one of those adverts - so outside the box it's outside the galaxy, yet hidden in it all, is a little bit of brilliance.

What about this video for Stride gum:

Finally, this ad was produced to sell ice-cream. I was definitely not craving vanilla after it...

Advertising has changed as the power of social media has grown. In 2011, television advertising was, on average, expected to return £1.79 for every £1 spent. Now, in the modern world, B2B Marketing says that it is now social media that influences the shopping behaviour of most Americans.
