Diego Maradona Went Absolutely Wild From The Stands After Lionel Messi's Goal

Diego Maradona Went Absolutely Wild From The Stands After Lionel Messi's Goal

It just had to be him. Lionel Messi, who struggled in previous games to make any impact, has scored the 100th goal at the 2018 World Cup ending a 22-shot run without scoring in the competition.

Messi got on the end of a sublime Ever Benega pass to stroke home from inside the penalty area.

It was a scene like something out of a movie and when cameras panned toward Diego Maradona, the legendary figure celebrated in the only way he knows how.

It looks like he's having an outer-body experience.

The former international's antics didn't end with the first goal, either. When Marcos Rojo scored in the 87th minute, Maradona celebrated by sticking up both fingers.

Before the game, the under fire Lionel Messi received backing from the main man, Diego Maradona.

"To Leo (...) I would like to speak with you and tell you that you are not to blame for anything. Absolutely nothing is your fault. I love you and I respect you like always," he told SPORT.

Maradona also refers to Messi's 2014 World Cup outing where he was named player of the tournament.

"Messi was exceptional under me at that tournament," he added.
