Fisherman Catches 20 Pound 'Goldfish' Using A Biscuit As Bait

Fisherman Catches 20 Pound 'Goldfish' Using A Biscuit As Bait

Gives a whole new meaning to the idea of dunking your biscuit, doesn’t it?

Over in the US this week, a dude with the name of Hunter Anderson managed to catch a ginormous fish using nothing but a biscuit for bait. Gives a whole new meaning to the idea of dunking your biscuit, doesn't it?

Now before you start wondering which sweet treat he decided to use (Bourbons, Oreos... Hobnobs!?), this is America, so they're talking about those white, savoury scone-like things that are often served with gravy.

"Believe it or not, we ate at Lee's [Famous Recipe Chicken, a chain of diners in the US] earlier in the day, and I took a piece of a Lee's biscuit and put it on a hook, threw it out there and that fish ate it," Anderson told the WKYT news station.

Anderson and his girlfriend were surprised the animal went for the food, as they'd only stopped off at the private pond in Boyle County, Kentucky, on a whim. They knew there used to be some goldfish or koi lurking in the area, but none that weighed 20 pounds (or had a penchant for baked goods).

Even after the fish grabbed onto the bait, Anderson - who works in a bait shop and has fished his whole life - had to put up quite a fight to reel it in.

"There's no faking that kind of fish," Anderson added. "It was crazy."

Anderson's sister Cassie was equally surprised, and decided to post a picture of the catch on Facebook, alongside a caption that jokingly pondered whether the fish could be an old pet they'd flushed down the toilets as kids.

She wrote: "What you are witnessing is NOT National Geographic! It is not a stolen image or edited photo!

"This is my brother!! Who is holding what could possibly be... that pet goldfish we flushed when I was 9!!!

"I swear, I thought you were dead, Bubbles... Caught in Danville KY, y'all!! Oh my gosh don't flush your pets!"

The photo has garnered a lot of attention online and understandably so, with more than 3,000 shares and 1,500 likes at the time of writing.

Now before you start questioning this family's flippant approach to the death of the fish (pet or not), Anderson was kind enough to return his hungry catch to the pond.

"I thought it deserved to swim another day," Anderson explained. "Maybe somebody else will catch it. Maybe a kid will catch it and be as happy as I was. I was jumping for joy."

So was the fish! Turns out the biscuit dinner wasn't his last meal after all.
