Is anyone's investment in the VMAs driven by something other than a weird desire to see it go awry in some way? In the past, they've given us Madonna and Britney spears getting off in front of Justin Timberlake, Nicki Minaj asking Miley Cyrus 'What's good?' and of course, Kanye West hijacking Taylor Swift's speech to big-up Beyonce.
Now, we have the symbolic, crushing barely-reiterated hug that Drake put out for Rihanna.

He had been presenting the Bajan singer with MTV's Video Vanguard Award to conclude the show, gushing shite like: "Eleven years later, they still all know Rihanna as the one and only Rihanna."
"Some artists need to play a character to achieve success," he added. "She succeeds by doing something that no one in this music industry does, which is being herself...
"She's someone I've been in love with since I was 22 years old."

As if this wasn't enough of a one-way-street, Drake then hands over the award before holding out his arms as if he's saying 'u wot m8' while Rihanna solely goes in for the kiss. Eventually she grasps him back but no-one cares at that point. Drake's made a tit of himself and he knows it.
This being said, he's Drake. And he probably got a bit more from Rihanna away from the cameras later that night. He'll be fine.
You can watch replays of the VMAs on MTV in the UK from 8pm on Monday.
