As if you didn't need further proof that Pokémon Go has taken the entire world by storm, here's some more. A picture has emerged of a soldier capturing their first Pokémon whilst on the frontline fighting ISIS, sadly he opted for Squirtle - a far inferior choice to Charmander - but seeing as he's defending us against a force of evil I guess I'll let that one slide.

The New York Post reports that Louis Park, an Afghanistan war veteran who is in northern Iraq fighting ISIS alongside a Christian militia, posted on Facebook saying he had captured his first virtual monster in Mosul.

"Just caught my first pokemon on the Mosul front line by Teleskuf," Park wrote on Facebook on Friday. "Daesh, come challenge me to a pokemon battle. Mortars are for pussies."

In the screenshot you can see the Squirtle, one of the game's three starter creatures, along with a Poké Ball rested on his rifle.

The game, created by Niantic and the Pokémon Company, is an augmented reality game. It uses the GPS and camera on players' phones to give us a go at experiencing the virtual world of Pokémon.

Although its been released in the USA, New Zealand, Australia, and - apparently Northern Iraq - you can only get it unofficially in the UK at the moment.

But fear not, Pokémon Go is launching in Europe and Asia 'within a few days', according The Wall Street Journal.

So soon you'll be able to post Facebook statuses challenging ISIS to Poké battles too.
