Dad Picks Up Kids From School, Discovers They're Still Doing 'The S Thing'

Dad Picks Up Kids From School, Discovers They're Still Doing 'The S Thing'

A great day for all.

On Sunday, a dad in Brisbane, Australia accidentally travelled back in time.

Walking along the concrete pavement of his son's school he saw something long thought deceased in the smartphone era: the S.

I say 'the S' because I'm not sure if there's an official name for it. It's just 'the S'. What other S's do you know? None. Only this one.

A staple of any early-to-mid noughties school kid's daily life. On paper, on your hand, on your pencil case, at the back of your textbook. The S played by no-one's rules and fitted pretty much anywhere - if you had the skill.

I'm gonna go ahead and presume most of you reading know how to do the S. For those that don't: click off this article, teach yourself and thank me later.

Anyway, Russell told Buzzfeed: ""I had a vague memory of learning that perhaps it extended to other Brisbane schools?"

It hasn't been confirmed who drew the S or what the intention was.

"Quick update guys," he wrote on Twitter. "I've just come from kids' school can confirm that, in 2017, kids are still doing these."

"IT STILL LIVES," one user replied.

"Glad to see the youth are keeping important traditions alive," another said.

It seems that while some things get dated as time beats ceaselessly on; other things - like 'your mum' jokes and short back and sides hair-dos - refuse to fade into irrelevance.
