Police Stop 'Plonker' Driver With A Fake 'Del Boy' Driving Licence

Police Stop 'Plonker' Driver With A Fake 'Del Boy' Driving Licence

Lovely-jubbly. Nice and smooth, nice and smooth, know what I mean?

Del Boy Trotter from the 1980s sitcom Only Fools and Horses is one of British telly's most iconic comedy characters - not the sort of inconspicuous person someone should have on their fake ID.

That's why one hapless driver got it wrong after he got pulled over by police with only a driving licence claiming to belong to Del Boy in his possession. Lovely-jubbly.

Norfolk and Suffolk police dog unit officers made the discovery after they stopped the driver of a green Renault Megane on the A47 in Terrington St Clement, near Kings Lynn, in west Norfolk.

The dodgy licence - apparently registered to a Mr Del Trotter of Tower Hamlets, east London - showed a picture of the character, played by David Jason wearing his trademark cap.

Never mind the fact that Del Boy is a famous resident of Nelson Mandela House, Peckham rather than Tower Hamlets. Even the notorious wheeler-dealer himself would call it a fake.

The licence also said that the driver was only permitted to drive a three wheeler, like the famous yellow Reliant Regal that Del Boy drives in the series.

The cops promptly seized the man's car, reporting him for driving without a valid driving licence and without insurance.

Knowing they were sitting on comedy gold, officers then tweeted about the discovery, rubbing it in by referencing several of Del Boy's catchphrases from the show:

Police added that the driver hadn't produced the licence in an attempt to deceive them - instead they just found it in the car after the driver had been dealt with.

Either way, they had a laugh about it with the collared driver. At least the driver saw the funny side even though he'd lost his car.

This isn't the only time lately that UK cops have pulled over someone with an obviously fake driving licence.

Just a few days ago, Thames Valley Police stopped an unidentified driver in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire who handed them a driving licence in the name of Homer Simpson.

Like the Del Boy guy, 'Simpson' was reported for driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

What's going on with all the fake licences lately? Chateauneuf du Pape!
