Social media is a place people go to escape reality. The possibilities are endless on there.
You can create any amount of accounts on any platform, keeping yourself anonymous and basically separating your real life from your online life.
A lot of people do it, because in this day and age a high internet status is valued more than a public one.

Labour MP Toby Perkins recently underwent an online transformation, but it wasn't one which came with his consent.
Perkins had to scramble to sort out his Twitter account on Thursday morning after it was hacked and his pictures were replaced by a half-naked lingerie model.
A model named 'Anna Nelson' took up the picture spot, while a link to a private webcam accompanied the new look.

Toby's profile has since returned to normal, but not before a slight panic over his morning brew.
"I was on Twitter at about 8.30am and everything was fine," he told the Mirror. "Then I sat down for breakfast and started getting phone calls."
Whether it was phone calls telling him to change his Twitter back, or people thinking it was Anna's number remains to be seen, but it's most likely the first.
I reckon it improved his profile, to be honest.
