To the uninitiated, Twitter can be a bit of mine field. It's where memes and news stories are often born and, in many ways, it's a language in and of itself. And then, of course, you've got the specific subculture that is Irish Twitter which is a whole other ball game.

In a column that summarises the best and most ubiquitous moments on Irish Twitter, we would be remiss to not refer to the Irish meme heard round the world this week - the Matt LeBlanc / Joey from Friends as your typical Irish Uncle meme. We could honestly fill this entire column with variations of it but we are going to task ourselves with highlighting just a couple of our absolute favourites such as this masterpiece from @Maccadaynu.
Where was Estelle in the Friends reunion? We know the character died in the show's last season (her final appearance was actually in one of the best episodes of all time - 'The One With The Cake') but we don't remember BTS or James Cordon having anything to do with the show and yet they somehow defeated the odds and landed cameos in the one-off special.
Another week, another series of blunders from both the national government and Dublin City Council as both bodies continue to make the 'outdoor summer' they so enthusiastically encouraged us to embrace pretty much impossible to enjoy. They're persistent restricting of access to what few public facilities we have and ignoring the growing demand for additional amenities like bins and public toilets have created an absolute calamity in Dublin city as the temperatures continue to rise. @Rubot's tweet here feels less like a joke and more like a depressingly accurate prediction.
Similarly, this tweet from @surrahtonin aptly summarises the consensus on Twitter that the government need to put their money where their mouth is - or rather, our money where their mouth is?
We know Scott is joking here but after nearly six months of lockdown the idea of being that far from our house would nearly move us to tears...
TBH - Tweets that made us go 'Hmm...'
As part of a recent announcement of restrictions being eased, it was revealed that this month the government would begin to trial a number of events such as music concerts, sports matches with spectators and nightclub events as it considers how best to move the country out of lockdown. This beacon of hope for fans of nightlife has been almost immediately thwarted by news today that the venue planned for the trial nightclub event, Jam Park in Swords, has been forced to close down permanently due to an issue relating to its lease agreement.
The closure of the venue, and thus cancellation of this trial event, is yet another blow to the nightlife industry and an example of why venues and nightclubs, which play such a crucial role in our culture, need support from the government now more than ever.
We love when someone really puts the work in when sticking it to the man which is exactly what funny man and podcaster Luke Benson did this week with this satirical tourism advert promoting the notorious 'outdoor summer' in lockdown-era Dublin.
The Irish are amongst the funniest populations in the world. Our country is home to some of the world's all time greatest comedians and writers and the comedy scene continues to foster amazing emerging talent to this day. With that in mind, a recent feature by journalist Pat Stacey in the Irish Independent this week claiming there's a lack of comedic talent in Ireland for RTÉ to produce original programming with has left us, and author Darach Ó Séaghdha, somewhat baffled.
Although it's probably worth asking the question - is RTÉ really the end goal for young comedians in 2021? With the rise of TikTok, Ireland's funniest youngsters can reach an audience far greater than prime time on RTÉ1 or RTÉ2 and they can do it from the comfort of their own homes.
Sam Pearson, owner of Dublin's Vegan Sandwich Company, reminds us here that people who take the time to write reviews on food delivery platforms are true psychopaths.
