How does a parent get the attention of their insubordinate child who won't listen to them? Take away that which they love the most.
Allan Gieger Jr. was tired of seeing his son, Allan Gieger III, smoking weed, disrespecting him and his mother and generally 'acting all thug' so decided to put his boy's SUV up for sale on Craigslist.
This wasn't an empty threat however as the Florida father sold the car in just two hours.

He told CNN: "I've been having some issues with my son over the past year. I don't want to see him struggle the way I did."
Gieger Jr. also offered any buyer in the local area $250 off just so his son would see the car from time to time and remember 'how good he had it'.
Of course, tough love parenting often causes controversy but it seems this father has got it spot on as the response to his Facebook post has been extremely positive.
Apparently the '98 Ford Explorer was bought as Gieger III's 16th birthday present for him to drive to and from school and work. But the teen had other ideas.

Those ideas weren't approved of by his parents and he quickly became disrespectful to his mum and dad which prompted the 'creative' punishment.
"Like every parent, we went through every avenue. We tried talking to him," Gieger Jr. added. "I was tired of being embarrassed."

Although the teen is upset his car is gone, he has apparently seen the punishment as a life lesson and is now far more receptive and respectful to his parents.

The Craiglist post is staying up as a reminder to his son to stay in line. It reads:
I have my sons truck up for sale that I bought for him as his first car, he thinks it's cool to drive around with his friends smokin dope and acting all thug and especially not showing me and my wife the respect that we deserve. This was a vehicle to finish school in, get a decent job and get a head start on life but chose to throw it all away because his friends would rather have an influence on him more than me! Now he can put those Jordans to use walk his ass off on these hot summer days! It has ice cold air and power everything! It's dirty as hell inside and out because he didn't respect it and take pride, seems to drive well but needs a few parts because it squeaks! I just put new tires on it that he never paid me for because dope was more important and driver seat doesn't come all the way up, I guess cause cops kept riding by! If you live on the WESTSIDE I'll take $250 off the price just so he sees it every now and then so it'll remind him of how good he had it! I have title in hand!
