After facing US congress yesterday following the Cambridge Analytica data scandal, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has become a living meme for all the wrong reasons - most notably, because people reckon he may actually be a robot.
And people have now even started photoshopping him to look like Data from Star Trek, which is fitting not only because the character is literally called Data, but also because he's an android. Very clever.
Mark Zuckerberg's manner has always reminded me of someone, but I could never quite grasp hold of it.
Just now it hit me, watching him testify about data. pic.twitter.com/4Zs2eGlsHD

One is an unfeeling robot who just wants to understand humans. The other is Data from Star Trek. #Facebook #MarkZuckerberg pic.twitter.com/T2DghJeC83

One Reddit user even took it one step further:
While facing congress, Zuckerberg answered questions from senators on a number of topics, including privacy, 'data-mining', the company's regulations and even how it makes money.
But the thing that most people watching were thinking about was the genuine potential that Zuckerberg is, in fact, a robot.
Some people didn't even take it as far as to link his mechanical expression to that of Data's.

What's more, the fact he was using a 'booster seat' wasn't missed, either.

Following the data scandal, Facebook announced that it would be taking 'additional steps' to put users more in control of their privacy.
In a post on the Facebook Newsroom, Erin Egan (vice president and chief privacy officer, policy) and Ashlie Beringer (vice president and deputy general counsel) explained the changes that would be taking place for users.

Going into more detail about the road ahead, Egan and Beringer also said that Facebook would address its responsibility to tell its users how it collects and uses its data in language that's 'detailed, but also east to understand'.
"in the coming weeks, we'll be proposing updates to Facebook's terms of service that include our commitments to people," they said.
"We'll also update our data policy to better spell out what data we collect and how we use it."
