Competitive Grave-Digging Is An Actual Sport

Competitive Grave-Digging Is An Actual Sport

You won't believe it.

Remember when you were young and you had aspirations to be a professional athlete. Then you started going to the pub and all your dreams disappeared under your beer belly.

Hey, at least you tried. I feel your pain. I know your pain.

But now there's a new trendy sport sweeping across Europe and there's a chance you could excel at it. What is it you ask? Competitive grave-digging, of course.

Last week, the Associated Press reported that Hungary was to host its first national grave-digging competition in Debrecen, the country's second-largest city after Budapest.

But why is all this happening? Aren't there enough sports already?

Organiser Iren Kari told the Associated Press that the organisation hopes the contest will bring awareness and respect for the work gravediggers do. Apparently it's hard to find young people who are interested in manual labour. For them, this is the perfect way to do that,

Two male teams of 18 took part in the event. The diggers had to use shovels, rakes, axes, and pickaxes to dig regulation-size graves. I won't bore you with the diameters. If you're interested in that kind of thing, Google has the answers. They were then judged on speed and style because nothing says masculinity in 2016 like digging a trendy grave.

The burning question I have is why haven't Sky Sports bought the TV rights to this yet?!
