Dealing With Loss: Ways To Cope

In our 'First Steps' with Hussain Manawer series for LADbible's UOKM8? campaign, the poet talks about coping with grief.

UOKM8? campaign ambassador Hussain, who lost his mum suddenly, opens up about the things that helped him cope with the loss of a loved one.

"Be honest with how you're feeling," he says. "As soon as my mum passed away, it was a sudden death, one of my boys was with me - my best mate - and I said, 'Bruv, take the week of work, I need you to move in with me now'. I was so numb I was not thinking straight, and I needed someone around me."

When it comes to reaching out for help, Hussain says: "Get it out of your system and if you don't have anybody around you, there's helpline, there's charities, there's listening services, there's therapists to help with different ethnicities and cultures and cultural backgrounds, if you think someone won't understand your family dynamic. There's help.

"People should be stepping into your life right now and you should welcome that."
