Your Friend’s Mental Health: How To Help Them

It's not an easy conversation to have, but it can be very important

In our series of 'First Steps' videos with Hussain Manawer the poet and UOKM8? ambassador tells LADbible the best way to start a difficult conversation about a friend's mental health.

Speaking to one of your mates about their mental health isn't easy, but Hussain remembers the conversation his friend had with him, offering him support, and now offers some top advice on how you can do the same.

"Be prepared to listen," he says. "You might not have all the answers and that's fine; because you're physically present and you're there and you're willing to help."

Hussain also touches on the importance of what not to say, including 'man up' - a phrase that he says needs to be 'thrown in the bin - not even the recycling bin, throw that shit in the trash'. Couldn't agree more, mate.

Watch Hussain give his First Steps guide to how to protect your mind.
