Olympic gold-medalist and world-record holder, Dina Asher-Smith, is Britain's fastest woman. But who does she get her sprinting genes from? Apparently, she's not the only athlete in the family.

Born in Orpington, Greater London on 4th December 1995, the 25-year-old, whose full first name is Geraldina, first started to take athletics seriously when she worked as a kit carrier at the London 2012 Olympics. From that moment, her eyes were set on the 2017 World Championships, where she won a silver medal for the 4x100m relay.

It turns out Asher-Smith has got the brains as well as the leg power. She achieved three A's in her A Levels and was accepted into the prestigious King's College London to study History. She graduated in 2017 with a second-class BA (Hons).

Her parents must be incredibly proud - who are they by the way?

Who are Dina Asher-Smith's parents?

Dina Asher-Smith is the daughter of Julie and Winston Asher-Smith, who are originally from Jamaica and had Dina after settling in Britain.

Dina is also the cousin of ex-footballer Garth Crooks.

Not much else is known about the sprinting star's family and we're not sure which parent gave her the running genes. What we do know is that Asher-Smith's passion for athletics began at an early age.

At age eight, she enrolled in the junior ranks of Blackheath and Bromley Harriers Athletic Club, where she met coach John Blackie, who still coaches her today.

It's clear that Asher-Smith's parents have supported her every step of the way, with her posting photos of them by her side during some of her biggest moments.

In 2018, when she won Sports Woman of The Year, she posted a photo on Instagram of her with her parents and wrote: "Thank you so so so much!!! I'm happy when these guys are happy haha #ProudParents #SWOTY."

The 25-year-old will compete in her final event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Friday 6th August.

After suffering from an injury and having to withdraw from the Women's 200m, Asher-Smith helped take Team GB to the Women's 4x100m finals.

You can catch all of the live action at the Olympics on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, Sky Sports, Eurosport, and Discovery Plus.
