Having signed a major two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi is officially one of the world's highest-paid athletes. So just how much is the Argentine worth?

According to various reports, the Ligue1 giants have offered Messi a salary worth an eye-watering €31.5m per season, which works out as €25m a season after tax.

The new contract also has a 'special Argentine clause' which means playing for Argentina will be made a priority.

What is Lionel Messi's net worth in 2021?

Forbes listed Messi as the world's second highest-paid athlete in 2021. He's said to be worth $130 million (£94,128,000), no doubt boosted by his mega PSG contract.

The 34-year-old's net worth is credited to his long and successful career as FC Barcelona's striker and winger. He also captains Argentina's national team.

FC Barcelona is experiencing financial difficulties at the moment, and Messi left the club he joined as a school boy after 18 years due to failing to reach a contract agreement.

Who is Lionel Messi's wife?

Messi has been married to his childhood sweetheart and model, Antonela Roccuzzon, since 2017 and they now have three children together.

The two reportedly met at nine years old in their hometown of Rosario, Argentina through a mutual friend called Lucas Scaglia, who played with Messi in the early days.

On 10th August, Roccuzzo posted a photo on Instagram of the family en route to Paris in their private jet ahead of the PSG move and thousands of Messi fans were at the airport and Le Parc De Princes waiting to greet him.

Thousands of Messi fans have been spotted queuing outside the official PSG merch shop, eager to get their hands on a Messi shirt ahead of his debut at the Paris club. The shirt sold out online just 30 minutes after his signing to the club.

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona's Ronald De Boer has said that Messi's iconic no.10 shirt should not be retired following his exit from Nou Camp.

Messi makes his debut playing for PSG on Saturday 14th August and it will be available to watch in the UK.
