A tiny Chihuahua puppy was abandoned at an airport after his desperate owner was left with 'no other option'.

Three-month-old Chewy was left in a bathroom at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas with a note from his owner.

The note said: "Hi! I'm Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn't afford [for] me to get on the flight.

"She didn't want to leave me with all her heart but she has NO other option.

The owner's note continued: "My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head.

"He probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much - please love and take care of him.

"XOXOXOXO."

Chewy was handed over to Connie and Millie's Dog Rescue after he was found in the bathroom and seems no worse for wear after his experiences.

The rescue centre shared a number of photos of the adorable little pup, as well as one of the note.

The shelter asked people to share the photo of Chewy, alongside one of the note, "in hopes that his mom sees this that she was brave to leave and that he will have a great life."

Darlene Blair of Connor and Millie's Dog Rescue told News 3 Las Vegas: "This one really got to me.

"You could tell by the way the note was written that the woman was in dire stress and she didn't want to give him up and she couldn't take him with her."

Bloody hell, has someone been chopping onions?

But before we all start bawling our eyes out, don't worry, it looks like the future might be bright for little Chewy, as the shelter has been inundated with offers of potential new homes for him.

And, better still, because Chewy's sad tale went viral, the shelter is now using its new-found fame to help get even more of its gorgeous dogs rehomed.
