The Official World's Ugliest Dog Has Been Crowned

The Official World's Ugliest Dog Has Been Crowned

Poor Martha.

The world has a new ugliest dog.

Yep, you read that correctly, for some reason, every year in the US a World's Ugliest Dog Competition takes place.

Whichever dog (and owner) wins, picks up a cool $1,500 (£1,100), trophy and a free trip to New York for a photoshoot. Not bad, really.

So, want to see the winner? Of course you do!

But...there's obviously been some kind of mistake, because this dog is beautiful.

Don't you listen to them, Martha, you're gorgeous.

Lovely Martha was rescued by Shirely Zindler from the Dogwood Animal Rescue Project, and was almost blind when she came into her care.

However, she's since undergone a series of operations to save her sight and now looks to have a pretty wonderful life with Shirley, who seemed overjoyed at being the proud owner of the World's Ugliest Dog.

She told NBC: "I'd gloat, but I need a nap."

Fair enough, Shirley, I think we all know that feeling.

Martha faced some stiff competition from the other uggo doggos. Check them out:

The dogs are judged on a number of categories including audience reaction, first impression and unusual attributes. The 'unusual attributes' include pups with tongues that constantly stick out, spots and bold patches.

Second place went to a 16-year old Brussels Giffon-pug mix called Moe. He, too, is perfect.

Maybe the real ugly ones are the humans judging these little cuties, ammaright, guys?
