A Pitbull Terrier is going to be killed this week for being just that.

Tragically, the law states that Francis, who was found without an owner last week, must face euthanasia.

Battersea Dogs Home, which is looking after Francis in his final days, released a statement saying that while the news was sad, it had 'to act in line with the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991'.

BDH has already put 91 dogs to sleep in 2016 alone. It says if it didn't euthanise the Pitbull Terrier, one of four banned breeds, then it would face prosecution from the police.

BDH added: "Our staff have to cope with such tragic cases every week of the year.

"We ask that people contact their MP to ask them in turn to join Battersea in putting pressure on the Government to change such dog legislation, so that dogs like Francis are not condemned, simply for being a certain breed.

"Battersea cannot break the law but with your support we can try to change this one."

What a shame.
