The joys of Urban Exploration.

You know when you're standing at the top of a building, looking out over a vast skyline and think to yourself "God, I wish I was naked"?

Japanese photographer Mar Shirasuna has tapped into that collective fantasy and has been snapping women lying on ledges of buildings for his series called Beauty And NYC.

Shirasuna has been working in New York for the past three years and reckons he's been to over 150 rooftops.

His inspiration for the series was born from a desire to shoot New York in a new way, given that it seems to have been done to death.

Bored with mere cityscapes, Shirasuna began putting people in his photos, in a bid to 'reinvent the selfie.'

Now he's photographed more than 50 models and is constantly being requested by others.

He said: "Right now, we are living through the selfie epidemic, and when I brought some of these people onto the rooftop, they would start taking selfies.

"My goal for this project was to reinvent the selfie, recreate it and make it something more beautiful and more creative. So, I started taking pictures of beautiful women on the rooftops with my project.

"I like to pick buildings in locations where I know the view is going to be amazing.

"What fascinates me most about New York is that even after living here for 20 years, there's always a new view.

"Today I might find a view that I didn't know existed yesterday, and tomorrow I might find yet another view that I didn't even know existed today - that's the beauty of it."
