Man Born With Rare Birth Defect Fitted With 'Bionic Penis'

What an age we live in.

A man born without a penis has been fitted with a bionic member.

44-year-old Andrew Wardle was born with a rare birth defect called bladder exstrophy that leaves the organ exposed. It means that while he does have testicles, Andrew is without a manhood.

Now, after going under the knife several times, surgeons at University College London have fitted a bionic penis made from Andrew's muscle, nerves, and skin. They are only a few procedures away from it being fully-functional.

Wardle has expressed his feelings, or lack thereof, towards losing his virginity to long-term girlfriend Fedra Fabian, revealing he's not even 'that excited' about it.

Speaking to the Sun, he said: "I've been with my girlfriend for a few years now but it isn't the sex I'm looking forward to.

"When you're born without a penis and you can't have sex, you just don't get that excited about it.

"I'm just happy to get my life back but I could understand how if you were born with a penis but lost it, it would be hard."

Growing up without a penis has meant Andrew has thought long over what love is truly about.

"I've told 20 percent of them the truth," he says regarding old flames. Shockingly, one woman punched him when he told her.

"It is difficult to explain to a new girlfriend but when I have some have been really nice about it. But I was punched in the face once when I told a girl," he once told This Morning.

"I guess she was angry as she felt like I had lied but it's not something you can say right away."

Andrew, from Greater Manchester, had spent 40 years hiding his condition before seeing no other option but to tell everyone he knew: "I just couldn't keep living a lie," he said.

"There was no other road for me to go down, so I thought that instead of telling one person at a time, I'd just tell everyone all at once."

Andrew plans to have kids once the final procedures are made.
