There's A 'Secret Room' Inside Mount Rushmore But You're Not Allowed In

Well, that's just very disappointing.

How cool are secret rooms? If I ever manage to buy my own house (Millennial problems), I will definitely make sure that I have at least one. It's worth it just to have a solid zombie apocalypse plan.

I'll be honest though, this particular room that's hidden inside Mount Rushmore has really pissed me off. Why? Well, you're not allowed to go inside.

What was the point in making it, then?!

I feel like the makers of Richie Rich must've known something we didn't. Do you remember they had a similar monument in their back garden which contained a massive safe full of all their prized possessions?

Well, inside Mount Rushmore is a project that was started in the '20s. It was designed with the intention of it being a 'hall of records', reports the Mirror.

Sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his team constructed the iconic landmark between 1927 and 1941.

He was actually planning a fourth image to sit alongside the presidents, however it was too intricate and he was forced to abandon his plans. Damn.

As a compromise, he was allowed to start work on the secret room. The intention being that this would be where all America's most important documents would be stored. Genius, really.

Poor Gutzon died before he could complete it, so he never saw the finished product.

However, work on the chamber was completed in the '90s. It is now home to the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Right which are all sealed in a titanium vault.

Tourists aren't allowed in and you can't reach it by foot.

Yeah, I'm not happy about it either. Anyone fancy a trip to America?

Trump's Secret Door

Recently, when British Prime Minister Theresa May visited Trump at the White House, people were quick to comment on the awkwardness of the meeting. First, the pair held hands, making May look like the naughty kid on a school trip who had to hold hands at the front with a teacher so they were under constant surveillance. Now, people have noticed a Trump's 'secret door'.

Given Trump's track record, you'd be forgiven for thinking that his 'secret door' is a reference to something ridiculous, like a new room he's created for time with Melania.

People were rather scared of the door, thinking that possibly, walking through it, would throw you into a dark room where, on the ceiling, a huge hologram of The Don is projected, softly whispering sweet nothings in your ear.

However, as much as that seems plausible, the 'secret door' has been there for a long time.

As you've probably worked out by now, it's just a cut through that makes access to other areas in the house easier. It's embedded into the wall just so it doesn't ruin 'the look'.

"The Oval Office has two major doors, three windows and two more window/doors and the two concealed doors," David J Gill, an architect, said. "There was simply a lot going on and including two more elaborate doors would have spoiled the clarity of the design."

So there you have it, panic over.
