In a week full of bad news, Chris Martin - of all people - has managed to put a smile on people's faces. The Coldplay frontman spent his Christmas holiday at homeless shelter Crisis in West London where he was putting on a surprise gig for the residents.

were amazed that he gave up his time to sing for them and they were pretty surprised.
Coldplay might be a bit Marmite but no matter how much you love or hate 'Yellow', you can't deny this is a good deed. It doesn't exactly happen everyday. It's like something out of a Richard Curtis film but hopefully not as sappy.

Chris sang Coldplay's past and current hits and even gave up the microphone to one of the homeless shelter's residents to belt out a few lyrics while accompanying him on the guitar.
And in a tribute to the late George Michael, who, it was revealed earlier this week following his death, used to anonymously work at homeless shelters, Chris also played Wham!'s big hit 'Last Christmas'.
Chris had clearly wanted to pay tribute to his mate, George, by helping out with a cause that was close to his heart. That's what Christmas is all about, isn't it? That and mince pies.
One of the staff - who donate their time during the Xmas period - said that volunteering was the highlight of their festive season.
Chris also brought a date to his impromptu gig as British actor Annabelle Wallis, who played Jane Seymour in The Tudors and is rumoured to be the singer's girlfriend, went along with him. Pretty good date night, if you ask me.
