For a man in Kansas, there really was no other way out of his clearly unhappy marriage to his wife.
Lawrence John Ripple, 70, robbed a bank in order to escape his wife, according to court documents.
Ripple allegedly told his wife that he would "rather be in jail than be at home" following an argument that the pair had.
The old man, having had just about enough, walked out on his wife and into the Brotherhood Bank and Trust Branch in Kansas City. He then he handed over a pre-written note to a staff member, reports ITV.
The note claimed that Ripple had a gun and demanded money. Apparently setting himself up for a deliberate loss, the man didn't walk away with the £3,000 that was handed to him. Instead, he took a seat in the lobby and told a security guard that he was the suspect.
After the cash was returned to the branch, Ripple got his wish and was arrested by the authorities.
Ripple's alleged argument with his wife was not documented in the court documents and no lawyer was listed for him.
Poor lad, it was clearly a cry for help.
