Denzel Washington Admits 'Film Making Isn't Difficult, Sending Your Son To Iraq Is Difficult'

Poignant words.

Denzel Washington has admitted that making movies isn't difficult, and made his sentiment even more poignant by adding that 'sending your son to Iraq is difficult'.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Denzel was asked what his worst job was. He said: "I was a garbage man... you get eight hours of work, but you can do it in three. So you can go home as soon as you finish. Post office, you get three hours of work, and you make it last eight. I did both. I liked being a garbage man better."

He continued, saying: "They weren't bad jobs. Just like people say: 'Oh, the difficulty of making a movie.' I'm like, listen, send your son to Iraq - that's difficult. It's just a movie. It's like, relax. I don't play that precious nonsense. It's like, oh, a movie. Get outta here.

"Your son got shot in the face? That's difficult.

"Making a movie is a luxury; it's a gift. It's an opportunity, and most importantly, it's a gift. Obviously, everybody here is talented enough to do that, but don't get it twisted. It's just a movie. It ain't that big a deal."

This is quite a refreshing take on movies by one of the big daddies in show business. This is a man who has worked his way up and appreciates that he's working in a dream environment.

Facebook user Donn Markel commented: "Good for you Denzel, as a combat Marine in Vietnam and working in the film industry for 40 years I'm sick of these whiny little film school graduates who compare making a film to going to war, you nailed it."

While Bradley Spears wrote: "First his comments about the media, and now this? This is why Denzel will forever be among my top 3 favorite actors of all-time."

The 'comments about the media' refer to his recent bash of newspapers.

At a screening for his new movie, Fences, an interviewer asked him what he thought of 'fake news' and its effect.

He said: "If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you do read it, you're misinformed."

The interviewer asked: "So what do you do?"

Denzel repied: "That's a great question. What is the long-term effect of too much information? One of the effects is the need to be first, not even to be true anymore."

"So what responsibility do you all have?" he said. "To tell the truth. Not just to be first. But to tell the truth.

"We live in a society now where it's just first, who cares, get it out there.

"We don't care who it hurts. We don't care who we destroy. We don't care if it's true. Just say it, sell it.

"Anything you practice you'll get good at - including BS," said Washington. "But you heard me. Does that make sense?"

Woah, he's really going in recently.
