'Harry Potter' Fan Film Prequel Looks As Good As The Real Movies

This is incredible.

'Harry Potter' fans are probably some of the most engaged and loyal in the world. They worship JK Rowling and anything she ever puts out.

I'm not saying Fantastic Beasts wasn't good, but I guess no one really knew what it was going to be like. The movie was completely new.

A group of superfans decided to make their own original story, and it's not like they just went to the park and recorded a load of them in cloaks with their iPhones - this is unbelievably professional.

Just look at the teaser trailer...

The film follows the story of Grisha Mac Laggen who is the heir to Griffindor. You may not recognise the name, and that would be about right as the filmmakers have made her up.

According to the Verge, she suspects Tom Marvolo Riddle (aka Voldemort) has something to do with the death of Hepzibah Smith, a Hufflepuff family descendant.

For those of us who have read the books, we'll know that she's bang on the money and he did murder her in order to obtain her two prized possessions - Helga Hufflepuff's cup and Salazar Slytherin's locket. He later made both of these into horcruxes.

In the end, her death was blamed on her house-elf, Hokey. She was old and forgetful, so no one questioned her when she claimed to have put poison in Smith's tea. In reality, Riddle had planted the false memory in her mind.

Anyway, the whole teaser is so beautifully done, it's hard to process that this isn't a legitimate Harry Potter film.

The movie has been in the works since 2016. On their website, they write: "'Voldemort: Origins of the Heir' is a non-profit fan film, inspired by the Harry Potter universe. The idea was born while re-reading the sixth book of the saga, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

"We wondered: 'What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort? What happened in those years, and what really went down at Hogwarts when he came back? There are some clues in the books which have not been transposed at all in the movies, but a lot goes unspoken. This is the story we want to tell: the rise of the Dark Lord before Harry Potter and his first demise."

You may be wondering how they're managing to get away with this in terms of copyright infringement. Well, originally they were getting money for the project through Kickstarter, however Warner Bros. issued a takedown.

It seems that they've managed to sort something out, as on their Facebook page, a fan asked: 'You aren't shut down for copyright infringement yet?' to which they replied: "This is a fan-made project. The film will be available for free on our YouTube channel by the end of 2017. And for what concerns the copyright, we have an agreement with Warner Bros, so no worries."

I for one can't wait to watch this. And it's free? Even better. Just goes to show that this project is a labour of love and nothing more.
