The Bat-Signal will be flashed over Los Angeles in a tribute to Adam West.

DC Comics has revealed plans for a special way to honour the actor, who died last week aged 88. West was the Caped Crusader back in the 1960s Batman TV show.

As a fitting tribute for the star, Los Angeles City Hall will flash the Bat-Signal at 9pm (PST). Mayor Eric Garcetti and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck will light up the signal, while fans are asked to dress-up to pay their respects.

There's also a mention of guest appearances by 'surprise Bat-guests'.

West, who is as equally well known for playing a comic version of himself on Family Guy, died after a battle with Leukaemia.

At the time, his family released a statement which read: "Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans' lives. He was and always will be our hero."

This was followed by a touching tribute from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, who wrote: "Family Guy has lost its mayor, and I have lost a friend. Adam West was a joy to work with, and the kind of guy you could always be around.

"His positivity, good nature, and sense of fun were undeniable, and it was always a big jolt of the best kind of energy when he walked in to record the show. He knew comedy, and he knew humanity.

"I am beyond fortunate to have had the privilege of working with him, and he will be profoundly missed by all of us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have given, Mr. Mayor. You're irreplaceable."

Other Batman actors have also paid their respects:

West's family have encouraged fans to donate to the Adam West Memorial Fund for St Jude Children's Research Hospital and Camp Rainbow Gold.
