First Ever Drive-Thru Greggs Has Opened In Greater Manchester

Who's getting the brekkies in?

For years, the only way to get a Greggs was by walking into the shop and ordering at the counter.

Well, either that or you all bundle your orders on the one bloke from the office who's going to have to attempt to balance eight cappuccinos on his way back from the brekkie run. Poor sod.

Well now, little Dave will have no problem at all getting them in. As long as he doesn't mind the drive to Salford.

A new branch of the bakers has opened with a drive-thru at Irlam Gateway Service Station in Salford, Greater Manchester. Luckily, it opens at 6am Monday to Friday, so there's no excuses. Even if you work in Birmingham.

According to Manchester Evening News, they're testing out the drive-thru up north before a potential nationwide roll-out. Sausage roll-out?

Anyway, Roger Whiteside, Chief Executive for Greggs, said: "When it comes to food on-the- go, our customers tell us that convenience is key. We've been working hard to take Greggs to where our customers need and want us to be including office parks, industrial estates, retail parks and travel hubs.

"A drive-thru offers the ultimate convenience and seemed the logical next step for us to take. This is a first for Greggs and we are excited to trial the concept in Irlam, Manchester."

It opened on Monday and will be open from 6am to 9pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm on Saturday and 8am to 6pm on Sunday.

Social media users were quick to praise the baker's new venture..

Greggs also did trial a delivery service in Newcastle back in October 2016, with Amy Carroll, communications manager at Cobalt Business Park in Newcastle, telling the Newcastle Chronicle: "I am sure Greggs Delivered will provide a popular choice for our businesses, catering for meetings and for people who just fancy a team lunch.

"This service adds to a host of fantastic lunch options which staff at the park have to choose from - they will be spoilt for choice!"

Sadly, we've not heard anything since. Come on, Greggs. Delivery's better.
