A loyal dog has died in Thailand after being hit by a car in the spot where she waited a whole year for her owner to return.

The Bangkok Post reports that she fell from the back of a vehicle in 2015. Loung, a three-year-old Thai breed, had then sat on Sukhumvit Road, south Thailand, for 12 months.

The pup was fed on a daily basis by locals but insisted on remaining on the side of the road to wait for her owner to take her back home.

Since the abandoned pooch staged her protest, a few people came forward and claimed to be Loung's owner. However, their efforts were rumbled when they came to 'collect' her. Loung didn't recognise the people who claimed to be her owner and fled to a nearby orchid for cover.

Her owner didn't return and Loung was sadly hit by a car and died from the injuries she sustained.

The tragic incident has sparked the initiative for a dog-lovers club in the province of Chanthaburi, eastern Thailand, to organise a fitting burial for Loung.
