Hold your shit together but a lot of people are seriously scared a volcano on the island of Tenerife is about to blow. This follows nearly 100 mini earthquakes that were recorded in just four hours at the weekend.

The huge spike in seismic activity recorded on the island, where many choose to go on their jollies, has led to concerns that Mount Teide could erupt soon. Not even all the factor 50 - and aftersun - in the world will protect that burn.

According to the Volcanology Institute of The Canary Islands (Involcan), 92 microquakes in Adeje and Vilaflor is a cause for concern.

The likelihood that an eruption is imminent has escalated as there is also an 'abnormal' amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

In a statement explaining the recent seismic activity, Involcan said: "In principle, these earthquakes are very low magnitude, consistent with those that occur in active volcanoes.

"The number of earthquakes is provisional pending the analysis of the signals more closely, but we can qualify this activity as a seismic swarm whose pattern is an alignment with prevailing direction northeast to southwest."

The fear that Mount Teide, which last erupted in 1909, could let one off has left residents on the island asking Involcan for an evacuation plan to be put into place, as reported by The Sun.

Considering that The Canary Islands off the coast of northwestern Africa were formed by volcanic activity, perhaps there really is a cause for concern.

Surly that lowers the fares even more. Fuck the risk, I need some cheap sun before accepting that winter is coming. Who's with me - first one to the summit gets a beer?
