In just a few days, the new polymer fiver is set to be introduced. Let's face it, all you really want to know is whether or not it will live to fight another day if you accidentally put it in the washing machine.

Well, considering polymer is stronger and lasts 2.5 times longer than the paper fiver, as long as the cycle doesn't exceed 90 degrees Celsius, it will survive the attack of the washing machine. But wait, there's more.

The new note will still have the same traditional green and blue scheme but look closer and you will notice subtle differences.

A transparent window that changes colour from purple to green will feature on the new fiver. So, too, will a hologram of Blenheim palace. Furthermore, 'Bank of England' is in raised print and WW2 PM Winston Churchill replaces social reformer Elizabeth Fry.

Here's a video from the Bank of England that explains everything you need to know about the fiver.

Eco-warriors will also have nothing to worry about. The polymer note will be much better for the environment because it lasts longer. Therefore, less energy will be needed to be spent repeatedly printing, transporting and producing new notes.

According to the Mirror it will also be much harder to make counterfeit ones.

Sit tight, they're coming. On Tuesday the new notes will go into circulation.

Going forward, if by the end of next year you still have an old fiver, it will be possible to exchange them at the Bank of England - unless you want the souvenir, that is.
