A journalist has shared a shocking image of a bullet lodged in his neck after he was caught by the stray ammunition in the ISIS-occupied city of Marawi, Philippines.

Adam Harvey, ABC's Indonesia correspondent, was in the city reporting on the ongoing battle between ISIS and the government's forces. Nearly all of the city's 200,000 residents have fled after the invasion.

Adam uploaded the photo of the bullet, firmly lodged in his throat, with the caption: "Lucky."

Despite how it looks, the injury isn't believed to be life-threatening, with Adam tweeting: "I'm okay. Bullet is still in my neck, but it missed everything important."

The brave reporter also streamed a Facebook Live of him in a medical centre receiving treatment, while casually chatting on the phone.

In the clip he could be heard to say: "It literally just looks like I've been hit with a cricket ball. I've got to go, but I'm OK." This fella is nails.

ABC released a statement in which it said: "Indonesia correspondent Adam Harvey has been injured while on assignment in Marawi in the Philippines and is currently receiving medical treatment."

He also shared a photo of the doctor who spent an hour removing the bullet.

Apparently, it was just one centimetre away from almost certainly killing him. Scary stuff.
