Lads, Here's Why You Shouldn't Put Your Phone In Your Pocket

If you're a bloke and you carry your phone in your pocket, STOP. STOP IT NOW.

There's been a new review of 21 studies linking mobile phones and sperm count and it doesn't look good.

According to MailOnline, phones placed close to a man's genitals (like in a pocket for example) for a long period of time steadily drive down sperm count.

The scariest part? Of the surviving sperm, many studies suggest that they could be 'DNA-damaged'. Yikes. That doesn't sound good.

This debate on whether or not mobile phones' radiation has any harmful effect on the body has been going on for absolutely ages. However, this collation of studies by a team at the University of Newcastle in Australia shows a strong link.

The authors of the study looked at 27 studies, and of these, 21 showed a link between mobile phone radiation and sperm count.

They wrote: "While this subject remains a topic of active debate, this review has considered the growing body of evidence suggesting a possible role for RF-EMR [radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation] induced damage of the male germ line.

"In a majority of studies, this damage has been characterized by loss of sperm motility and viability as well as the induction of ROS generation and DNA damage."

So there you go. If you're looking to conceive in the near-future (or ever) you might want to start carrying your phone in your bag or something. Or one of those arm bands that people wear at the gym. Just don't put it in your pocket.
