He is the Queen's cousin.

As the old saying goes, 'There's someone who's gay in every family', and it turns out the Royal family is no exception.

Lord Ivar Mountbatten made history today as the first member of the Royal family to come out as gay. Fair play to him.

Now, the family tree for the Royals is pretty confusing, but basically he is the Queen's second cousin. He is also the son of the Third Marquess of Milford Haven and godfather to Prince Edward's eldest child, as well as the great-great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria.

He told the Mail Online that although he has come out as bisexual, he is still not 100 percent comfortable with his sexuality.

"'Coming out' is such a funny phrase but it's what I suppose I did in a rather roundabout way, emerging to a place I'm happy to be," said Lord Mountbatten.

"I have struggled with my sexuality and in some ways I still do; it has been a real journey to reach this point."

Although he was married to a woman, his ex-wife, Penny, and their three daughters have given their blessing to his new relationship with James Coyle, who is an airline cabin services director.

Lord Mountbatten revealed that Penny knew he was bisexual when they got married.

He said: "Being a Mountbatten was never the problem.

"It was the generation into which I was born. When I was growing up, it was known as 'the love that dare not speak its name', but what's amazing now is how far we have all come in terms of acceptance."

Congratulations to Lord Mountbatten and his new fella.
