Photographer Captures The Grim Reality Of Kim Jong-Un's North Korea

Much has been made about Kim Jong-Un's dictatorial reign over North Korea, but what is it actually like?

Well, as you'd expect, it's grim.

Alexander Belenkiy, a Russian blogger and photographer, managed to snoop some pictures of what North Korea looks like from the outside.

At the risk of his own life, Alexander trawled the border between China and North Korea, capturing the sight that Chinese residents have of the neighbouring country.

In the pictures, people can be seen washing their clothes in a dirty river, children can be seen being forced to work, and houses near to the border are painted to give the impression they are well maintained.

Alexander, who put himself in danger of being shot by guards as he could have been seen as an enemy agent, said that the guards began to light fires, so that the smoke might obscure the view of his camera lens.

He wrote on his blog: "I managed to see the remotest places of North Korea and take pictures for which people are shot for in this country.

"Only a few foreigners have visited these places.

"In one village people spotted me with my camera and set fire to the grass to try and stop me from taking pictures.

"Was it dangerous? Surely. But the risk was worth it."

During his three days dangerously travelling the border, he only saw three vehicles, with the main transportation being a bike. The roads are all dirt tracks and there was no visible public transport.
