Possible Avenues Conor McGregor Could Go Down Now That He Has 'Retired' From UFC

What's next for The Notorious?

This morning, after a spout of confusion, a hint of controversy and a whole bunch of 'what the fucks going on?', the dust began to settle on Conor McGregor's alleged retirement.

Whether it's actually the greatest publicity stunt ever between him and Dana White remains to be seen.

Some reports suggest that McGregor was after a huge $10 million pay cheque for UFC 200 - which Dana White refused - and so the Irishman kicked up a fuss and stormed out.

Other alleged reasons for his 'retirement' are that he refused to do a promo event and so Dana dismissed him, but before anything came of it Conor took to Twitter to post his retirement tweet. Another reason being thrown about is that someone close to The Notorious died in a fight so he decided to call it a day.

Whatever the reason, there's no doubt that Conor will be leaving the promotion that he made waves in, in order to raise him to the top, too early on in his career.

Despite the fact he's literally living in a hurricane of money, his dedication, hard work and obsession with being the best will undoubtedly land him in another profession, should he choose to pursue another career.

Being that the Irishman is pretty much a slave to raking in the big bucks, you can't expect to see him anywhere that won't equal his pay in UFC, or surpass it.

That being said, here's a few of the avenues the 27-year-old could logically choose to go down.

The first thing that springs to mind is WWE.

To some it'll seem obvious, to others it'll seem ludicrous. However, given the stature of the WWE they'd be able to meet his demands and even offer him a perfect contract, similar to what Brock Lesnar has.

Ken Shamrock was the first UFC fighter to jump ship to wrestling, and he was at the height of his game in MMA. He barely needed to change his persona that he'd created in UFC as 'The World's Most Dangerous Man' and that's something McGregor would probably never have to do either.

He wouldn't need catch phrases, he wouldn't need silly outfits, he'd just need to be an exaggeration of himself.

Imagine him at Wrestlemania, delivering martial arts kicks, deadly submissions and then flying off the top rope down onto his opponent on the mat. It'd go fucking off!

The only pitfall for Conor would be that the WWE are fully immersed in their 'PG Era'. Had it been the Attitude Era, his foul mouth and cocky attitude would have slipped in perfectly.

However, it took one man to usher in the infamous Attitude Era - Stone Cold Steve Austin. Who's to say McGregor couldn't start his own era?

To add fuel to this, McGregor's latest twitter activity suggests he may be gunning for a move towards WWE.

Becky Lynch, an Irish wrestler, tweeted him asking if he'd joined her in the company.

He then went on to follow a few big names within the business.

Maybe a hint at his future?

Sticking to the same logic, he could possibly try and make it as a boxer.

He proved that he was able to switch it up, moving up a weight class and then taking part in a fight in UFC. Who's to say he couldn't do it in boxing?

Obviously, it's a completely different kettle of fish, but if he was faced with the challenge, he'd certainly take it on.

In the past McGregor has spoken about taking on retired boxing champion Floyd 'Money' Mayweather, but ultimately nothing came of it.

If, eventually, something along those lines happened, you'd better believe you'd be watching the biggest sporting event ever. In terms of money, status, legacy; anything - it'd be huge.

Even if the Irishman did take to the boxing ring, only to debut against a no mark, promoters would still lump a lot of fucking money on it.

Personally, I hope that The Notorious would never step foot in a boxing ring. It's not his game, and he'd likely end up on the mat.

Much like adding fuel to the fire with WWE by following the heads of the company, he's also followed Amir Khan. Debut fight?

Thinking about things that would only bring in the 27-year-old a bigger revenue than UFC brought him, there's only a few things left that spring to mind - all of which seem ridiculous.

Let's be honest, The Rock is a prime example of how far a run in a certain promotion can push you.

After he had his initial stint as 'The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment', directors and film producers came knocking on his door. First came The Scorpion King, and then once you've sifted through the shit that is Doom, The Tooth Fairy and Race To Witch Mountain, there's actually some brilliant films.

Now, I'm not saying that McGregor will ever grace the big screen - I hope to fucking God he never does. However, if film producers were to look at the fact that people are weirdly drawn to the Irishman's persona, they'd likely throw wedges of cash at him to just kick the shit out of people on camera, and then say something typically Irish for a few cringeworthy laughs.

It's exactly what happened with The Rock.

"People love him!? Fuck it, dress him up as the tooth fairy. Make him a badass cop. Have him running through the jungle. Make him a life guard. DO EVERYTHING."

All it takes is someone with a bottomless wallet to tell Conor to regrow his beard to it's bushiest form, get a skin head and bulk up a little more. He then drives fast cars, sleeps with multiple women, slaps the shit out of bald fat men who stand in his way and does all this whilst the film follows no plot.

Other than these three options, there's not a whole host of things that would be suitable careers for Conor to pursue. Believe me, I've debated it extensively and there is no place for Conor McGregor in porn.

Of course, there's still a heavy chance that he will compete again in UFC and there's a bigger chance that his 'retirement' is actually a publicity stunt.

Whatever happens, whether he never fights again or goes down another path, I'm sure we'll all still be very excited about his next moves.
