A woman who was convicted of second-degree murder for pushing her husband out of their 25th floor apartment has been found dead in her prison cell.

Amber Hilberling, 25, was found hanging in her jail cell in Oklahoma on Monday evening. A source, who later identified themselves as a prison official, revealed to News9 that it was "an apparent suicide."

She died while serving a 25-year sentence at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center for the murder of her Air Force Veteran husband Joshua Hilberling.

The convicted killer was 19-years-old and seven months pregnant with the couple's child at the time of the crime. She claimed that the death of her husband was accidental. Joshua's family had previously said that he had planned on leaving his wife because of the abuse they said she inflicted on him.

Ms Hilberling had testified that on June 7, 2011, she pushed her husband in self-defence. This was after he allegedly grabbed her by her shoulders during a heated row. She protested that she never intended for him to fall out of their high-rise apartment.

On a Facebook page titled, 'In Loving Memory of Josh Hilberling,' someone posted a status update. It read: "We heard that Amber Hilberling hung herself in prison this evening. We know how it feels to lose a child. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. It's something no parent should have to experience. Condolences to those who loved her."

However, since then Josh's brother, Zach Hilberling, has appeared to have commented "Muhahahahaha ding dong the witch is dead!! Muahaha," in reaction to the news. He believes that her death has brought "some closure" to his family.

Ms Hilberling's family continues to protest her innocence and do not believe she took her own life. Bryan Whitlock, Amber's stepfather, insisted to KTUL that there was "no way" his stepdaughter committed suicide.
