Here at The Scene, your guide to the best in new Irish music, we're always on the lookout for, well, the best in new Irish music. It's kinda what we do.

This week we've got a belter: Shane Codd's debut single Get Out Of My Head. Don't just take out word for it: it was named BBC Radio One's Tune of the Week and has amassed 6.6 million streams in just a few weeks.

It's current #1 on Shazam UK and Shazam Ireland, #2 on iTunes UK and #3 on the Irish Homegrown Chart, which is pretty bloody good for a first effort. It's a house banger, with piano lines and female vocals that could have been lifted straight out of the early Nineties, combined with a more modern vibe.

The song has been bubbling under for a few months now and spawned the generic set of YouTube version videos, but now has its own actual proper music video, which you can see below.

Shane, who is originally from Cavan and made his hit in his bedroom there, said that the track was an outlet for him during the first lockdown period earlier this year. "I wanted to get out and do things and I also wanted the stress of Covid out of my head, like I'm sure a lot of us did," he said.

"The vocals really sat with me, making the track was like an escape for me. I remember the first time I played in it my car I got a release and a feel good vibe of it. I imagined festivals and people dancing, which felt like a distant memory during Covid."

"I posted the track online and immediately got a reaction," he continued. "I was blown away. People were sharing it and tagging me, I was grateful and happy they liked it. I received messages from some people saying that it helped them during lockdown and that for them it was the tune of 2020, I couldn't believe the reaction it was getting."

Fairplay Shane - we can't wait to hear more at The Scene.
