Company Makes Redundancy Announcement By Using A 'Game Of Thrones' Quote

That's not the way to do it.

When making an announcement, given the context, it can sometimes be good to use quotes from popular television series.

If you want to announce to your mates that on Saturday night you're going to get royally fucked, then it's acceptable to maybe throw in an amended Stars in Their Eyes quote: 'Tonight, Matthew, I'm going to be... Pissed.'

However, if you're going to tell your employees that redundancies are a possibility, it's probably best you leave the quotes at home, no matter how fitting they are.

Someone at Your Housing Group obviously didn't get that memo.

Bosses of the housing association were announcing to their staff that after a projected budget shortfall, some people would unfortunately be losing their jobs.

They made a risky move when they allegedly included the use of a quote from Game of Thrones, saying: 'Winter is coming - change is coming.'

The quote was originally said by Eddard Stark in the first series of the show before his death (which was inevitable, Sean Bean dies in everything), and is the motto of 'House Stark', which signals that bad times are ahead.

No amount of people who will lose their jobs was specified, meaning the news is even more of a worry for staff. The Liverpool Echo reported that the company had forecast a massive £65m shortfall over the next five years.

Staff from the firm contacted the Liverpool Echo to voice their disgust after a 'difficult situation was made even worse'. The Liverpool Echo reported that people were 'outraged' and thought the alleged remarks were 'insensitive'.

You can't blame them. It's like justifying cheating on someone by constantly saying 'we were on a break' like Ross does in friends - just don't do it.

In fairness to whoever made the announcement, Game of Thrones might literally just be stuck on their mind and they've done this accidentally. During the lead up, the eventual premiere of season six and the excitement for the coming episodes, the show has been just about everywhere.

It's been so popular in fact, it made quite a big dent in Pornhub's website traffic.

The second episode of Game of Thrones season six airs on Monday.
