A homeless man was burned alive after the killer became convinced that the man was having an affair with his recently estranged wife.

The victim, named as 45-year-old Marcello Cimini, was sleeping outside the Mission San Francesco in Palermo, southern Italy when his killer attacked.

The CCTV footage shows a man, wearing all black, approaching Cimini with a container full of liquid.

He then throws the liquid over him and sets it alight.

As he does so, Cimini wakes up but it's too late.

The attacker is then seen fleeing the scene with his legs on fire.

According to the Mirror, by the time emergency services got to the scene, Cimini was already completely incinerated.

Flowers have been laid at the scene of the incident. Apparently, large black scorch marks are still visible at the scene.

Italian news website, Corriere, has claimed that Guiseppe Pecararo, a 45-year-old petrol station worker, has been arrested for the murder.

He apparently admitted to the killing, saying that he had done it out of 'jealousy' as he believed Cimini was having an affair with his recently estranged wife.
