Here in England, we pride ourselves on a
good old night on the lash. Pints, kebabs and having a laugh with your mates
are national pastimes, so it would stand to reason that we'd host a pretty good
However, an extensive new study, which ranks global cities at how good they are for a night out, didn't even put any English cities in the top 20.
Unsurprisingly, Dublin, Belfast and Amsterdam were very close to the top, with Hamburg and Copenhagen taking first and second place, respectively.

London, however, was the only English city to be placed in the list, coming in at a shambolic 26th place.
The study, commissioned by Hostelworld, looked at a number of factors to draw its conclusion, including the quality of the night life, friendliness of the locals, safety, transport and cost, after asking local residents their opinions.
Northern European cities score highest on the list, with the region containing 10 of the top 12 locations.
Marek Mossakowski, Global Head of Brand at Hostelworld, told the Daily Mail: "The results of this study have been fascinating, especially the performance of smaller cities - most notably with Hamburg taking top spot over Berlin.
"We know young travellers are increasingly venturing off the beaten track to uncover unique experiences, and this study demonstrates this."

Hostelworld's website explains why the German city ranked in pole position, saying: "So, why is Hamburg the best night out in the world? It's based on the locals' views as to what makes an awesome night out, and Hamburg has LOADS to offer!
"If it's clubbing you're after, head to dance music heavyweights such as HALO Club, for classic house music; Bahnhof Pauli, an underground train station club; Baalsaal, which boasts a huge sound system with insane house and techno music; or Fundbureau, an old cellar under a railway bridge.
"The Germans aren't early birds, so don't go out until at least midnight - Cinderellas miss all the fun!"
So, there you have it. Next time you're after a big night out, sack London off and head for Hamburg instead - it'll probably cost you less in the long run anyway.
