A woman who started her legal career doing work experience at 15 years old has become the youngest female judge in the UK at just 31.

After 16 years of experience, Briony Clarke has been sworn in as a deputy district judge at Chelmsford Crown Court in Essex.

In those 16 years she has had experience with solicitors, having started out on a placement with the Chelmsford firm Taylor Haldane Barlex LLP.

Back in 2001, she joined as a trainee solicitor and has undergone a meteoric rise through the legal ranks.

She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2009, became an accredited Duty Solicitor in 2010, an associate at THB in 2013, and a partner there in 2014, the Daily Mail reports.
"It's nice to have someone from our own community, embarking on the same career that we have all at some stage had to launch ourselves into," Recorder of Chelmsford, Judge Charles Gratwicke said as she took her judicial oaths.
"It just goes to show how young you are and how long a career you have. Many congratulations.
"Enjoy it."
