A six-year-old boy has sadly died after bravely defending his mum from a rapist.
Kutlwano Garesape was stabbed to death with a broken bottle after he intervened while his mum, Segomotso, was being attacked in Northern Cape, South Africa.
The six-year-old was on his way to school when the attacker appeared 'out of nowhere', grabbing his mother's shoulder and demanding she give him money.
Both Kutlwano and his eight-year-old brother, Thabiso, witnessed the shocking attack, according to IOL News.
"Thabiso was scared but Kutlwano kept on defending me," Segomotso said. "I could feel that the man was pulling up my skirt with his other hand and realised that he wanted to rape me in front of my children."
The heroic six-year-old reportedly kicked and slapped the unnamed attacker, shouting: "Let go of my mummy, it is my mummy."
After Segomotso was able to kick the rapist off her, he turned his attention to Kutlwano. He then threw him into the air, strangled him, and then stabbed him with a broken bottle.
His mother said: "I heard my child crying out for me and I saw him trying to defend himself with his hands. The man just kept on stabbing him.
"I felt helpless and ran to the main road in an attempt to find help... all the cars just drove past as I cried and screamed that a man is killing my child.
"I ran back and could still hear Kutlwano calling me. When I got closer, I saw that he was now stabbing my son with a stick. I was screaming and felt so helpless."
The attacker ran away after leaving Kutlwano's body on a nearby railway track.
He was soon caught by local police, and has been charged with the murder of a six-year-old boy.
Locals are planning to stage a protest outside the jail to make sure the 32-year-old attacker is not granted bail.
This is absolutely awful. RIP Kutlwano.
